I'm almost 100% sure Adi Shankar's favorite Devil May Cry game is DMC 2, because of just how bad he's done with characters from any other game. Just from the first season alone but now that the trailer for season 2 is out it only enhances my theory.

Adi legitimately stated he was pissed off that they released dmc5.
like, genuinely angry. since he had started working on the show before 2019 with the explicit intention of ‘reviving’ and ‘creating’ dmc as it were (his words)—but Capcom got to it first with the next instalment.
he’s never had any passion or love for dmc, he just saw it as a convenient opportunity to make people think of him when the franchise is brought up.
instead of, you know. the actual games.
hence why every character is a lifeless husk of what they once were, and the White Rabbit is a self-proclaimed ‘self-insert’ where he gets to nerf every other character and completely butcher them. then make up for that with shitty nostalgia bait moments so fans of actual dmc are ‘satisfied’.

the older i get the more i start hating that "traumadumping" is seen as a toxic behaviour when its actually a blatant sign that that person is struggling.
like idk about you but if my friend or aquaintance starts textwalling me on discord about their family abusing them as a child or something, my first thought isnt "ugh this is so inconsiderate of them. toxic" its "oh no i think my friend is having emotional flashbacks :(" regardless of if i have the energy to engage with them about it at the time.
this isnt even getting into how minorities are often treated as though theyre "traumadumping" just for talking about their lived experiences in a deeply bigoted society. specifically thinking of disabled people at the moment but i feel its also applicable to most other oppressed groups.
